Georgia Title Ad Valorem Tax Facts (TAVT)

Motor vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013 and titled in the State of Georgia are subject to Title Ad Valorem (TAVT) and are exempt from the sales and use tax and the annual ad valorem tax, also known as the birthday tax. The TAVT tax is a one-time tax that is imposed on the fair market value of the vehicle (as determined by the State of Georgia).

  • TAVT is be assessed for all dealer and private vehicle sales for vehicles titled in the State of Georgia with a Georgia tag  
  • While the actual amount of the TAVT won’t be known until you file for your tag, the State of Georgia has provided an online calculator https://eservices.drives.ga.gov/_/ where an estimate can be determined.
