Atlanta, GA (Aug. 27, 2015) — Delta Community Credit Union (www.DeltaCommunityCU.com) and Georgia United Credit Union (www.gucu.org) announce the grand opening of their jointly sponsored, simulated storefront in the new Junior Achievement (JA) Discovery Center at Gwinnett this afternoon.

“Our storefront focuses on the importance of giving back and investing in local communities – a commitment shared by all credit unions,” said Jai Rogers, vice president of community development at Delta Community. “Delta Community and Georgia United are excited to join forces to provide this dynamic educational opportunity.”

In addition to the credit union storefront, the JA Discovery Center at Gwinnett offers more than 30 other simulated businesses. Students are able to interact within a realistic, imitation economy, assuming the roles of employees, tax-payers and consumers. By the end of each session, each student completes a day's work, develops a personal budget and makes purchasing decisions.

“This opportunity showcases two credit unions coming together in a cooperative business model to teach the importance of giving back to the communities we serve. Students learn the importance of making, spending and giving,” said Debbie Smith, president and CEO of Georgia United. “The JA Discovery Center at Gwinnett supports our shared mission of fostering financial education, literacy and responsibility.”

The JA Discovery Center at Gwinnett is located on the campus of the new Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. It is expected to serve more than 25,000 middle school students annually. Georgia’s first JA Discovery Center opened in Atlanta in 2013.
