    Delta Community Announces 2016 Scholarship Winners

    Credit Union Awards $20,000 in Scholarships to Five Students

    ATLANTA (May 13, 2016) – Delta Community Credit Union (, Georgia’s largest credit union with more than $5 billion in assets and more than 336,000 members, announces the 2016 recipients of its annual scholarship program. Five students were chosen based on academic achievement, community service and submission of an essay on a topic selected by the Credit Union.

    “Good career planning and educational development are critical to long-term financial success, and we’re proud to provide this Scholarship Program to help our members better afford college,” said Delta Community’s Chief Operating Officer Matthew Shepherd. “We wish these outstanding students great success as they pursue their academic and professional goals.”

    The following students will each receive a $5,000 scholarship:

    Thomas Beirne, a senior at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, New York, plans to attend Cornell University and major in applied mathematics.

    Trent Johnson, a senior at Eagles Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia, plans to major in nursing at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

    Raahina Malik, a senior and valedictorian at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Georgia, plans to major in neuroscience at North Carolina’s Duke University.

    These students will receive $2,500 Scholarship Awards:

    Paige Frank, a sophomore at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, is majoring in biomedical engineering.

    Sabrina Lewis, a senior at East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Georgia, plans to attend the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in engineering.

    The scholarships are designed to assist eligible members with higher education expenses such as tuition, books, dormitory lodging and meal costs. For additional program details, visit
