    Delta Community Awards $15,000 to School Students Helping Others

    ATLANTA (Nov. 15, 2018) - Delta Community Credit Union (www.DeltaCommunityCU.com), Georgia’s largest credit union with $5.8 billion in assets, awarded a total of $15,000 to five metro Atlanta schools for their student-led initiatives to positively impact their classmates and communities.

    During the second annual Give Back Giveaway Contest, which was carried out on Atlanta radio station Star 94.1’s Jeff and Jenn Show, Delta Community awarded a grand prize of $10,000 to Gwinnett County’s Arcado Elementary School to support its #RecessforAll campaign to build an inclusive playground so that students with disabilities are never left out during recess.

    “We’re grateful for the opportunity to support this worthwhile effort, and all the student-led programs that were entered in this year’s Give Back Giveaway,” said Delta Community CEO Hank Halter. “They are shining examples of the great changes that can be made when young people take the lead to make a positive difference in the world.”

    Radio personalities Jeff Dauler and Jenn Hobby from Star 94.1 and Delta Community’s Reina Short presented the $10,000 check at a surprise pep rally today at Arcado Elementary School.

    More than 50 schools submitted entries in the “kids helping kids” themed radio contest. In addition to the grand prize awarded to #RecessforAll, a $2,000 prize was awarded to the Miss Leaders organization at Cotton Indian Elementary School, in Henry County, for its Little Free Library book exchange.

    Three other schools won $1,000 awards.

    • The Junior Beta Club at Barack and Michelle Obama Academy Atlanta won for its project to collect clothing, shoes and toiletries for children and families in need.
    • Little Mill Middle School, in Forsyth County, won for its “Mustangs on a Mission” service project which enables students to volunteer at non-profit organizations.
    • West Forsyth High School’s Freshman Fellows organization won for its “Why You Matter” campaign to promote a positive school environment and spread words of kindness.
