Delta Community Credit Union Fulfills Local Couple’s Dream of Seeing Oprah

ATLANTA (May 27, 2011) – As the world prepared to say goodbye to Oprah Winfrey, Delta Community Credit Union, Georgia’s largest not-for-profit financial institution, joined the celebratory farewells by sponsoring the Oprah Farewell Ticket Giveaway, a mobile promotion that gave WSB-TV viewers the chance to win a trip to see Oprah during one of her final tapings. Ross and Corrie O’Hair of Sharpsburg, Ga., walked away with the prize, which flew the couple out to Chicago for the May 17 taping of the show and also hosted them for dinner with Monica Pearson and others from WSB-TV.

From Monday, May 9, to Friday, May 13, Delta Community, in conjunction with WSB-TV, gave viewers the opportunity to enter daily. Throughout the week, Delta Community ran spots during The Oprah Show, featuring Delta Community EVP and COO Todd Marksberry. Each day, Marksberry gave out a “secret word” and a short code text for viewers to enter for a chance to win. Delta Community also helped promote the giveaway by posting the secret word to its Facebook page everyday at 4 p.m.

“This experience has been an amazing whirlwind and more than we could have ever dreamed of. The way Delta Community and WSB-TV took care of us was second to none,” notes Ross O’Hair, who entered the contest because of his wife’s love of Oprah.

O’Hair further explains that upon finding out they had won, he had to find a way to tell wife Corrie, “at first I had wanted to surprise her, but then I had to figure out a way to get her to take off work so that we could go sign the paperwork. In the end, I had to tell her the truth, even though she didn’t really believe me. Her exact words were, ‘if you’re kidding I’m going to be really mad at you. You can’t joke about Oprah.’”

“Being able to bring this opportunity to metro Atlanta, one that was 25-years in the making, was something that Delta Community could not pass up,” states Rick Foley, president and CEO of Delta Community. “We strive to support our customers and communities and to continue to be part of the important, memorable moments where their lives come together. We’re thrilled this was one of those moments for the O’Hairs.”

    About Delta Community Credit Union

Delta Community Credit Union is one of the largest financial institutions in Georgia. It was founded in 1940 and today serves the entire metro Atlanta area, including residents of the 11 surrounding counties and employees of top businesses, such as Delta Air Lines, Chick-fil-A, Yamaha Motor Manufacturing and Racetrac. Delta Community is a state-chartered credit union organized under the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance, and its deposit accounts are federally insured through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. It chooses to operate as a not-for-profit credit union so it can give back earnings to its customers and their local communities. Unlike a for-profit bank, Delta Community is owned by its customers, not individual or institutional investors. Customers become member-owners when they open and maintain an account.
