Credit Unions Hold Annual Bowl-A-Thon for Children’s Miracle Network

DULUTH, GA (August 27, 2012) – The Greater Atlanta Credit Union Chapter raised more than $37,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® (CMN) this year at its 10th Annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser held at the Brunswick Zone in Marietta, Georgia as well as their Norcross, Georgia location on August 18th. This year, there were about 135 bowlers that came out to bowl and 23 sponsors that contributed to this great cause. “Times are really tough in our economy, but we still managed to raise a considerable amount for CMN Hospitals and are so grateful to have so many loyal sponsors and participants to assist us with having another wonderful year,” said Laura Sterling of Georgia’s Own Credit Union employee and co-chair of the bowl-a-thon committee.

Funds raised this year will support the rehabilitation services (the prosthetic Fabrication Lab and Robotics Center) at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, experts in the Limb Deficiency Program custom – make artificial limbs (called “prostheses”) to restore a child’s function and appearance. Each prosthesis is designed according to the parents’ and child’s preferences – whether natural-looking hands with nails and polish or legs decorated with Tinkerbelle or Nemo. The limbs are made in Children’s Prosthetics Laboratory with highest quality standards and state-of-the-technology.

Nationwide, credit unions have risen over $100 million since 1996 and are the third largest annual corporate contributor to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. CDC Credit Union employee and co-chair of the bowl-a-thon committee Brittany Strickland said, “We have such a fun time meeting and finding ways to raise funds for such a worthy organization as CMN Hospitals and I am so proud to be a part of this hard working and dedicated committee.”
