HBCU Scholarship Awarded to Spelman Student

HBCU Scholarship Recipient

In September, Delta Community and Atlanta radio station Majic 107.5/97.5 awarded the third $2,500 HBCU Scholarship of 2020 to La’Niya Owens, a senior at Spelman College.

A first-generation college student, La’Niya has distinguished herself academically by maintaining her position on the college’s Dean’s List with a grade point average above 3.85. She has also been active in student and community affairs, serving as current president of the Georgia Association of Educators at Spelman, volunteering as manager of the non-profit Clean Up Your Act, Inc., and gaining work experience as a student intern for Fulton County, Georgia. La’Niya is deeply committed to educating and mentoring others, especially children. Her initial career goal is to be an elementary school teacher, where her educational efforts will benefit both kids in the classroom and the community.

Throughout 2020, we will award a total of $10,000 in scholarships to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state of Georgia. The HBCU Scholarship is part of Delta Community’s annual Scholarship Program. Visit our website to learn more about all of the scholarships that we offer.

Monthly Blog

  • It’s the First of the Month and a Weekend, So Where is My Deposit?: Delta Community is in close contact with our valued members every day, whether in-person, online, or via phone. We get lots of questions from members, and we strive to answer them quickly, thoroughly, and honestly. One question about our operations keeps coming up, and it's interesting enough that we wanted to discuss it a bit in this post. This is a question that we encounter occasionally from members: “When the first of the month is a Saturday or Sunday—or it’s a federal holiday—why don't I get my pension (or other) payment until the following business day?”
  • How to Make Your Mobile and Online Payments Safer: There are a wide range of online and mobile payments services that operate both nationally and internationally. Some services are created by fintech (financial technology) companies, or individual banks, while others are independent service providers that may be supported by networks of banks. While the services differ in the features they offer—some may allow you to easily split a restaurant dinner payment between a group of friends, make purchases, or connect to a debit card (among other options)—they all offer a quick and easy way to move our money around. All mobile payment apps are not created equal, and you should understand the differences between them.
  • October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month—Are You Cyber Insecure?: It's October, and that means there are two annual occasions to keep in mind—Halloween is at the end of the month, and its National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM)! Did you know that there is a National Cybersecurity Awareness Month—is it new to you? Well, it may still be unknown to a lot of people, but for 17 years the federal government and U.S. industry have collaborated on NCSAM; together they create a yearly educational campaign to provide up-to-date, “how to” instructions and facts on cybersecurity to assist all Americans with the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.
