Helpful insurance terms to know:
Insurance policies can be pretty hard to understand unless your business isn’t insurance. Here’s a list of general insurance terms that might help you when consulting with one of the Members Insurance Advisors specialists:
Commercial General Liability/Umbrella: Provides coverage on behalf of the insured for sums they may be legally required to pay to others as a result of the insured's actions or negligence. Policy may include coverage for bodily injury, property damage, personal injury, advertising injury, medical payments, and certain supplemental payments specified in the policy.
Commercial Property: Protects a business with an interest in physical property for its loss, or the loss of its income-producing abilities. Primarily covers buildings, contents, inventory, property in transit and at other locations and loss of income due to a property loss.
Commercial Automobile: Protects against losses involving autos. Examples of coverage include bodily injury to others, property damage of others, medical payments, and collision and comprehensive coverage for physical damage to the insured's vehicle.
Employment Practices Liability: Covers the insured organization, its directors and officers, and often all employees for liability arising out of various employment-related offenses alleged to have been committed against its employees, such as wrongful termination, discrimination and sexual harassment.
Directors and Officers Liability: Protects the directors and officers of a corporation (and sometimes the corporation itself) against liability allegations arising out of their "wrongful acts" and reimburses the corporation when it is legally required or permitted to indemnify its directors and officers for their wrongful acts.
Life Insurance: Key man insurance and buy/sell agreements.
Workers Compensation and Employers Liability: Workers Compensation is a policy conforming to state law, which pays benefits to an employee or an employee's family if the employee suffers a job-related injury, including death or disease related to work.
