Wooohooo!! I hit the big 2-5. I’m a Quarterlifer in every sense of the word. It’s the turning point, the stage where you do an in-depth evaluation of life and ask yourself if you’re moving in the direction of your dreams . . . or at least that’s what I did. After I took time for self-reflection, thanked God for another year and looked in the mirror for wrinkles, I left my hotel room at the MGM Grand and ate a hearty birthday breakfast before leaving Vegas. My birthday marked day four of my trip and I was set to head home to Atlanta to enjoy the rest of the day with family. Of all of my birthday celebrations, by far, Vegas took the cake!
Why Las Vegas? I’ve always wanted to visit Vegas as an adult. I barely remember anything about my trip to Vegas as a young child other than the scorching heat and asking my mom, “What’s that big hole?” “The Grand Canyon,” she replied. However, as an adult, I remember it ALL! I had an incredible birthday trip and even made money, unlike most who come to Vegas and LOSE it! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, job promotion, wedding or just life in general, here’s a guide on how to have fun in Vegas without breaking the bank.
Best Ways to Book Your Trip
First things first, don’t hop on the first deal you see; shop around. There’s an extensive selection of air and hotel packages on the web, so comparing prices can save you a bundle. You can find round trip flights to Vegas as low as $375 which is not too bad.
How to Pick the Right Hotel
Because I wanted to see the show KA by Cirque Du Soleil
, MGM Grand was the best selection because it offered complimentary show tickets and other exclusive deals and amenities. To choose the best hotel, determine what you want to do and see if your hotel offers the entertainment you seek. It’s always best to search frequently before your trip for weekly deals, promotions and cool incentives, as prices do change often. To save even more, off-the-strip hotels can have very attractive prices and are still within proximity to all the fun.
What? Free Stuff? Where?
From inside your hotel to the Vegas strip, endless entertainment abounds. For a tip of any amount, street performers will have you smiling, taking pictures and cheering for more. You can’t walk one block without people handing you free tickets or discounted coupons for dining, shows, gifts, gaming and entertainment. There are even coupons for free hotel stays and return trips to Vegas. I racked up on these! I even made a couple hundred dollars through timeshare presentations, received a variety of vouchers and saved a ton of money by simply collecting coupons from marketers on the strip. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, simply cruise the Vegas strip. There are plenty of free street shows and entertainment vying for your attention. It’s no wonder an estimated 1,000,000 people per week make Vegas their travel destination!
