Prize
Twice a year, scholarships for $5,000 will be awarded to HBCU students. Three scholarships will be awarded in May 2025, and two scholarships will be awarded in November 2025.

Delta Community Credit Union will select winners each entry period from among the most compelling submissions. Winners will be chosen after the contest period ends and will be contacted by a representative from Delta Community. Winners will be announced by V-103 on-air after each contest period.

2025 Scholars
Kennedy Jackson is a second-year Chemical Engineering major at Tuskegee University committed to academic excellence, community engagement and advancing representation in STEM. With a 3.8 GPA, she is active in the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the Georgia Club and the Gardening Club, where she supports local farms and community initiatives. Kennedy served as a Cellular Engineering Research Intern at Georgia Tech, contributing to molecular cloning techniques aimed at informing future therapeutic development. A 2024 graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School, she also helped launch the school’s food pantry in partnership with Kroger and the City of Atlanta. As a Black woman pursuing a career in a traditionally male-dominated field, Kennedy is dedicated to mentoring underrepresented peers and continuing her path toward becoming a Chemical Engineer who uplifts her community and breaks barriers in STEM.
Jackson Taylor-Shorter is a Hillgrove High School senior whose passion for animal science drives his goal of becoming a veterinarian and increasing diversity in the field. He plans to major in Animal Science, with North Carolina A&T as his dream school, and has already been accepted into several HBCUs, including Tuskegee University and Florida A&M University. Jackson has gained extensive hands-on experience through mentorships with Black veterinarians, participation in Tuskegee’s Vet Step 1 and 2 programs and research at NCA&T studying infrared thermography on sheep. His global experiences in Japan and Thailand, more than 270 service hours and leadership in community initiatives—including a 200-pound pet supplies drive—demonstrate his commitment to service and animal welfare. Jackson is determined to become a veterinarian who inspires future generations and advances representation within veterinary medicine.
Annamaya Kanu is a dynamic student leader who exemplifies academic excellence, servant leadership and a passion for community uplift. With a 4.2 GPA, she excels in advanced coursework, including AP and dual enrollment classes, while maintaining active leadership roles in her school and community. A dedicated participant in the THRIVE Upward Bound Program, Annamaya has benefited from and contributed to college preparatory programming aimed at first-generation and low-income students. Her leadership journey includes making history as the first African American female Governor of the Georgia District of Key Club International, where she championed youth service and advocacy. Annamaya also serves as Captain of the Dancing Diamonds dance line at Lovejoy High School, Student Government Historian, and DECA Vice President of Marketing. Her community involvement exceeds 200 hours of service, supporting causes such as sickle cell awareness, youth mentorship and school initiatives. Recognized by both the City of Lovejoy and Clayton County for her achievements, Annamaya plans to continue her leadership journey as a marketing major at Tuskegee University.
Janii Corneh is a purpose-driven student and first-generation college attendee with a strong commitment to leadership, entrepreneurship and community empowerment. She graduated from Douglas County High School with a 3.8 weighted GPA while excelling in AP and Dual Enrollment courses. As Vice President of Marketing for DECA and Captain of the Incomparable Tigerettes dance line, Janii also co-founded “Make Ends Meet,” a school-based hair pantry providing free products, tools and education to students in need. Her business interests deepened through her role as President of the National Black MBA Association’s Leaders of Tomorrow Atlanta Chapter, where her team placed in the top three nationally in case competitions three years in a row. Janii will attend Spelman College as an economics major, with plans to join the Future Business Leaders of Spelman and the Bonner Scholars Program. She also intends to expand Make Ends Meet to the Spelman campus. Her dedication to education, service and leadership reflects the values of the Delta Community HBCU Scholarship.
Mekhi Grissom is a resilient and inspiring young leader who has transformed personal challenges into a powerful story of perseverance, academic growth and civic engagement. A graduate of South Atlanta High School, Mekhi overcame early academic struggles to become an honors student and active community advocate. As a member of the National Beta Club and a student ambassador for his school’s College and Career Center, Mekhi focused on helping fellow students navigate academic obstacles. His commitment to service is demonstrated by over 500 hours of volunteer work, including organizing food drives, fundraising events and supporting major community initiatives at venues like Mercedes-Benz Stadium. During a transformative gap year, Mekhi helped raise over $10,000 for a back-to-school event that provided essential supplies and services to local youth. He will attend Morehouse College as a Political Science major on a Pre-Law track, aspiring to become a corporate attorney. Mekhi’s story is one of tenacity and purpose, making him a deserving recipient of the Delta Community HBCU Scholarship.
2024 Scholars
Matthew Dormus is a very accomplished junior at Oakwood University majoring in public policy, and he was named a 2024 White House Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Scholar. In this role, he works with the U.S. government agency the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and meets with senior officials from the U.S. government. Equally impressive are his video programming activities. He is the creator and host of “Meet the Scholars,” a 15-episode video series that spotlights 60 White House HBCU Scholars, he also co-founded and co-hosted Good Morning OU, Oakwood’s student-run online video program, and, as the current Mister Oakwood University (also known as the campus king), Matthew created and hosted “Crown Talk”, a video series where he interviewed 33 campus kings and queens from 26 HBCUs about their HBCU experience. He was inducted into the 2024 Carson Scholars Fund Hall of Fame by former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson, after Matthew had been recognized as a Carson Scholar on seven consecutive occasions. Matthew is from Hampton, Georgia, and he graduated from Georgia Cumberland Academy in 2022. His Oakwood University mental health initiative, The Story Room (TSR), is a cozy room on campus where students can retreat to read more than 50+ anonymous stories of students and alumni who have fought through mental health struggles. Matthew hopes through TSR, students will learn that they are not alone, and there is hope for managing their situation.
Caden Jenkins has made very significant contributions to his community while excelling as a scholar. He is a high school senior at The New School Atlanta; he will graduate in May 2025 while currently earning an almost perfect 3.98 grade point average in his classes. His future academic plan is to major in architecture at one of the multiple historically Black colleges and universities he has been accepted to. His community service efforts are equally impressive, extensive and varied. He participates in numerous service projects through his school and with the DeKalb County Youth Commission and the Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill. Additionally, he has volunteered dozens of hours to help other students prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test, one of the major entrance examinations required for admittance to many colleges and universities. His primary volunteer service is through “A Giving Hand,” an initiative he started in 2021. For A Giving Hand Caden collects food and clothing donations from family and community members, and he shops for food and bottled water to donate using his money and financial contributions from family. He regularly provides food to the Community Closet & Little Free Pantry at Eastside Church in Atlanta, and he has donated to a number of other charitable and non-profit organizations such as Free99Fridge, Covenant House Georgia, My Sister’s House, The Drake Closet and Branan Towers. As part of his constant mission to address food insecurity in the community, Caden has volunteered more than 50 hours with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Urban Recipe.
Jordan Caldwell is a senior from Marietta, Georgia majoring in art with a concentration in advertising design at Clark Atlanta University, and she has a long list of very impressive on and off-campus accomplishments. She was a 2023 Walt Disney UNCF Corporate Scholar and interned at the Disney Animation studios in California and then with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Academy Gold Rising program. She’s also a 2024 PUMA® Scholar and a staff writer, photographer and the first female cartoonist for the Clark Atlanta student newspaper. Jordan’s academic achievements include being a Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society member ranked in the top 10% of students with a 3.8 grade point average, out of a total of 4.0 points. She’s a Resident Assistant in a dormitory and a peer mentor for fellow students. Jordan also writes letters to incoming first-year students for Admitted Students Day. She has served on the Residence Life Advisory Board as the Co-Community Outreach Chair, creating and facilitating community programs like the Little Brother, Little Sister mentoring initiative and Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society®. Other community support activities for Jordan include volunteering with the Bagel Rescue hunger relief program since 2022. Additionally, she has helped assemble 200 Halloween bags for children in the local area, planted trees and participated in several campus cleanups. Jordan plans to become an illustrator and the first female black animated film director.
Amir Rowser graduated from South Atlanta School in 2024 and, although this will be his first year in college at Fort Valley Sate University, he is entering as a junior due to previous credits from dual enrollment with Atlanta Technical College. Academically, he excelled in high school, ranking third his class with a top 4.1 grade point average. His extracurricular activities have included membership in Future Business Leaders of America, Health Occupations Students of America and National Beta Club. His community support work is extensive; he has served co-chair of a non-profit organization called the Dukes Foundation that empowers at-risk young men. Additionally, Amir has been an ongoing supporter of breast cancer awareness, and he has raised and donated more than $4000 to this important cause in the past three years; he also participated in gala fundraisers to generate more financial contributions to overcome breast cancer. Overall, while in school, he dedicated more than 200 hours to different types of community service. While excelling academically and in serving the community, Amir has also worked part time at Sam's Club® to help fund his activities.
Sydney Catron will be a freshman in the fall of 2024 at Atlanta’s Spelman College, where she has already demonstrated academic excellence. She was accepted into the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program at Spelman, where she will major in biology/pre-med with a minor in Spanish. During the summer of 2024 she is studying abroad. Her career ambition is to become an obstetrician/gynecologist, with the goal of bringing healthcare to women who may not receive the medical attention and care they need. Sydney has been a gifted scholar her entire school career, including being a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. She also received the Outstanding Academic Achievement award from the National African American Recognition Program. She has maintained a 4.1 grade point average while taking multiple Advanced Placement® classes such as biology, physics, and American literature. Outside of school she has interned with the Kennesaw Gynecology practice while being highly active in her community. Sydney has contributed 40 hours of community service volunteering at food banks at local churches while using her Spanish-speaking skills; she has also worked with the non-profit Mission 1:27 to tutor middle school kids and teach them to read.
2023 Scholars
Alexis Sims is a second-year scholar at Spelman College and plans on using her Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and political science to pursue her passions of civil rights law, nonprofit service and community building. Alexis’ collegiate academic achievements include being honored as a Dean's List scholar for two years and earning membership into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. In April 2023, Alexis established the Spelman College Mock Trial Association; she is also an Associate for the Spelman College Social Justice Program and a member of the Morehouse Spelman Pre-Law Society. Alexis volunteers as a reading guide for the SpelREADS Literacy Program, and contributed more than fifty hours of tutoring in her first year of college. As a reading guide, Alexis assists in increasing the literacy rate of elementary and middle school students in the Atlanta Public School System. After graduation, Alexis plans to attend Law School. She is from Stockbridge, Georgia and graduated from Eagle’s Landing High School in 2022.
Kandon Fears is a sophomore at Florida A&M University (FAMU) in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication and plans on becoming a political journalist. Currently he is a staff writer for the student newspaper, serves as a host for FAMU TV-20 Venom Affair Show, and he is a field reporter for FAMU’s TV-20 Word Around Campus show. Kandon’s volunteer service activities include participating in voter registration drives and FAMU Day at the Georgia state capitol. He also became a proud member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and became active in The Sankofa Kinship of Big Brothers Little Brothers Mentoring Program, Inc., during his sophomore year. Kandon is from Lithonia, Georgia and graduated from Arabia Mountain High School in 2022.
Isaiah Cox is a rising junior studying pharmacy at Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. He is already licensed in the state of Georgia as a pharmacy technician, and his significant academic achievements include membership of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Societies. Since his freshman year at FAMU he has maintained a 3.5 grade point average. To supplement his academic studies with additional experience, in 2022, Isaiah completed the program at the Bluford Healthcare Leadership Institute, and he will be interning at Northwest Medical Center Houghton in Tucson, Arizona, during the summer of 2023. His many extracurricular activities include holding leadership positions both with Progressive Black Men, Inc., a community service organization, and with the FAMU chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Over the last year he also completed more than 300 hours of community service as a chemistry and math tutor, elementary school mentor, and community service worker with a local homeless shelter. Isaiah is from Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Sydney Redmond will be a 2023 freshman at the North Carolina A&T Honors College where she will major in health sciences. Her career ambition is to become a dentist providing dental services to underserved communities. This year she was a Healthcare Pathway student ranked in the top 10% of her graduating class at Heritage High School with a 3.93 GPA. Her academic honors and activities include membership in the National Honor Society and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; she was also a writer and reporter for her high school’s yearbook. In addition to her school involvement, Sydney has worked at Publix® for two years. Her extracurricular activities include serving on the Make-A-Wish® GA Youth Leadership Council, where she helps plan and lead fundraising activities to raise money for granting wishes to critically ill children. Since middle school, Sydney has logged between 50-75 community service hours volunteering for Med Share, participating in park cleanups, supporting the State of Georgia’s Adopt-A-Highway program, contributing to letter-writing campaigns for nursing home residents, and helping build Habitat for Humanity® homes. Sydney is also a member of INROADS®, which has programs to advance diverse youth in corporate America.
2022 Scholar
Isis Evans is a senior at Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia, majoring in political science with a minor in writing. In the summer of 2022 she was a congressional intern drafting legislation, including the RAP Act of 2022. At Spelman she serves as the president of the Morehouse Spelman Prelaw Society, secretary of the Senior Class Council, as a resident advisor, and is a First Year Study Group Lead for the Student Success Program. In addition to her many campus leadership responsibilities, Isis regularly volunteered at the Metro Atlanta Boys and Girls Club in 2022. Her career goal is to be an attorney.
2022 Scholar
Anthony Tucker is an engineering student at Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Among his many impressive academic achievements, Anthony has a 4.0 grade point average, and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, the National Honor Society, and received the Georgia Certificate of Merit for being in the top five percent of his class. Over the past four years, Anthony has been actively involved in extracurricular organizations such as College Inroads, DECA, Inc., and the United Way of Greater Atlanta. Anthony has also held an after-school job during much of his high school tenure. He plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in software engineering at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
2022 Scholar
Francesca McDaniel is a rising junior at Spelman College in Atlanta majoring in Biology. She plans to become a Physician’s Assistant with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology. This year Francesca was an intern with the Summer Health Professions Education Program, which includes classes in multiple scientific disciplines such as anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, and statistics. Her extensive extracurricular activities include membership in the Pre-Physician’s Assistant Association, working with Upward Bound assisting high school students in biology, co-hosting a podcast giving advice and sharing college experiences—and she was also a scholar volunteer with Spelman College’s Bonner Office of Civic Engagement Saturday Service. Additionally, Francesca tutors young children in reading, math, and writing at Conti's Incredible Connection, and she tutors high school students in biology through a program at Morehouse College. Her civic volunteer efforts also include cleaning sidewalks and playgrounds in her community and helping at toy drives, blood drives and voter registrations. For two years she was an organizer for Fulton County Voter Registration Drive in Atlanta.
2022 Scholar
Cameron Rainer, from Lawrenceville, Georgia, will be a 2022 freshman attending the Dr. Levi Watkins Institute Medical Program at Tennessee State University; he will be majoring in biology with an emphasis in premed studies. Cameron plans to attend medical school after graduating with his bachelor's degree, and his goal is to become a medical doctor specializing in neurology. A stellar high school student, Cameron had a 3.95 grade point average at Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. While at Grayson, he had a very impressive academic and athletic career, including contributing more than 300 hours of community service, being a member in the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, the Debate Club, and the Kappa League mentoring program—all while competing as a pole vaulter on the track team.
2021 Fourth Quarter Scholar
The fourth recipient of our 2021 HBCU Scholarship is Nasuan Bryant. Nasuan is a sophomore at Savannah State University and is majoring in Business Management. He is a dedicated scholar, maintaining great grades in all five of his classes, all while serving in the ROTC and working a part-time job to help fund his schooling.

2021 Third Quarter Scholar
The third recipient of our 2021 HBCU Scholarship is Leslie Cox, a junior at Spelman College. Leslie is pursuing a degree in Political Science, with a minor in Public Health, and plans to pursue Civil Rights Law. In addition to excelling academically, she is very active on her campus and committed to serving her community. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and participates in Spelman’s Student Success Peer Lead Program, where she serves as a student advisor and hosts study sessions and academic support groups for freshman. As a member of SpelREADS, she helps elementary school students improve their reading comprehension. Leslie is also involved in Spelman’s NAACP Chapter and helps execute voter education and outreach initiatives.

2021 Second Quarter Scholar
The second recipient of our 2021 HBCU Scholarship is Erin Foster, a sophomore at Spleman College. Erin is an exceptional scholar, pursuing a degree in Political Science with aspirations to become a judge. She has maintained high grades as a member of the Dean’s List, all while serving as the Vice President of the Sophomore Class Council. Erin is very involved in her community and has volunteered as a dance instructor with the I Am Arts Community Partnership, supported the educational development of children in underserved communities by creating flashcards for Jumpstart for Young Children, and helped assemble and pack meals for children in the Smart Kid Summer Feeding and Enrichment Program. In addition, she volunteered with the Village Tutorial and Enrichment Program and created STEAM activity kits for elementary students in the afterschool program.

2021 First Quarter Scholar
The first recipient of our 2021 HBCU Scholarship is Giana Levy, a senior at Clark Atlanta University. Giana is an outstanding scholar, pursuing a degree in Mass Media Arts with a concentration in Journalism. She has maintained a 3.9 GPA while being very active in student and community affairs. In addition to being a Dean’s List recipient and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, she also serves as the current vice president for Clark Atlanta’s chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. While serving in this organization, she has implemented career workshops and mentorship programs, as well as organized numerous speaking engagements with Black media professionals for the organization’s members. Giana is passionate about advocating for others and is a Quarterman-Keller Scholar in Spelman College’s Social Justice Program. When not serving on campus, Giana is active in her community and spends her time volunteering at women’s clinics and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

2020 Fourth Quarter Scholar
The recipient of our fourth and final 2020 HBCU Scholarship is Keith Gabbidon, a freshman at Morehouse College. In his first year of higher education, Keith has been a leader at school and active in his community while working part time, volunteering at his church and maintaining A’s in all of his courses. He is a member of the school’s Protégé Program, active in the freshman LEAD Program, and he holds an internship with the SGA, the Student Governance Organization of the Morehouse College student body. This year has been particularly challenging for Keith, as his family has been directly impacted by COVID-19. His mom is a frontline healthcare worker and contracted the virus earlier this year. Keith played an integral part in her recovery, all while keeping up with his job, volunteer work and studies. His career ambition is to become an architect, which he will be able to complete through Morehouse's dual enrollment program.

2020 Third Quarter Scholar
The recipient of our third quarter 2020 HBCU Scholarship is La’Niya Owens, a senior at Spelman College. A first-generation college student from Newnan, Georgia, La’Niya has distinguished herself academically by maintaining her position on the college’s Dean's List with a grade point average above 3.85. She has also been active in student and community affairs, serving as current president of the Georgia Association of Educators at Spelman, volunteering as manager of the non-profit Clean Up Your Act, Inc., and gaining work experience as a student intern for Fulton County, Georgia. La'Niya is deeply committed to educating and mentoring others, especially children. Her initial career goal is to be an elementary school teacher, where her educational efforts will benefit both kids in the classroom and the community.

2020 Second Quarter Scholar
The second recipient of our 2020 HBCU Scholarship is Anthony Ellis, a senior at Paine College. Anthony is majoring in Accounting with a goal of helping members of our community understand finance and money management. He is both an accomplished scholar and outstanding student athlete, maintaining a perfect 4.00 grade point average as a Presidential Scholar while serving as a captain of the baseball team. Additionally, he has been a campus leader in other areas; he has been president of the Student Athletic Council and Mr. Homecoming 2020; he was also the Student-Athlete of the Year for 2019-2020. Anthony loves assisting children and has been a very regular volunteer helping kids at local Augusta, Georgia, schools. He is from Stockbridge, Georgia, and graduated from Dutchtown High School in 2017.

2020 First Quarter Scholar
The first recipient of our 2020 HBCU Scholarship is Jacqueline Flournoy, a sophomore at Morris Brown College. Jacqueline is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration and hopes to become a clinical psychologist to help those who are underserved in her community. Jacqueline is very involved with campus life, currently serving as President of the Hospitality Club, Sophomore Class President and has been named Miss Sophomore. In addition to on-campus activities, Jacqueline spends much of her free time helping others. She actively volunteers at nursing homes, works with Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry and, after facing her own difficulties, started an anti-bullying campaign.

2019 Fourth Quarter Scholar
The fourth recipient of our 2019 HBCU Scholarship is Charles Johnson, a junior at Clark Atlanta University. He came to Clark Atlanta from Oakland, California. As a social work major, Charles is passionate about giving back to others and aspires to become a social worker and help children with mental illnesses.

2019 Third Quarter Scholar
Micah Boyd, our third recipient of a 2019 HBCU Scholarship, graduated in 2019 from Jonesboro High School in Clayton County, Georgia. While in high school, Micah mentored his younger siblings and other children, worked a job after school to help support his family, and remained an honor roll student. Currently a freshman at Clark Atlanta University, he is majoring in Art with concentrations in Graphic Design and Design Architecture. Micah has been an artist since he was 10 years old and eventually hopes to give back to others through art therapy.

2019 Second Quarter Scholar
The second recipient of our 2019 HBCU Scholarship is Caleb Tyler Vaughan, a junior at Morehouse College. Caleb is very involved with campus life, including active membership in the school’s student government association. He is also a passionate volunteer, serving as a mentor for at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system. Because of his own life experience, Caleb wants to set an example for at-risk youth as a person who faced a difficult situation but worked hard to further his education and have a positive impact on his community. His academic and career goals are to obtain his college degree and expand his professional knowledge in finance to become a financial advisor for low-income families.

2019 First Quarter Scholar
Congratulations to the first recipient of our 2019 HBCU Scholarship, Janaye Masters, a junior at Spelman College. Janaye is majoring in Health Science with a Spanish minor. She has been researching Analytical Chemistry at Spelman for the past two years in cooperation with NASA, where she has been developing spectroscopic experimental design. Her extracurricular activities include serving as the creative director for a non-profit organization that teaches elementary students about hygiene and nutritional health, and she advocates for food justice within the West End community. Janaye is bilingual, passionate about family health and research, and plans to become a physician.

2018 Fourth Quarter Scholar
The fourth recipient of our 2018 HBCU Scholarship is Keith Richard, a freshman at Fort Valley State University. Keith is majoring in Supply Chain and Logistics Management and aspires to take his family’s business to the next level. In addition to classes and work, Keith makes time for several extracurricular activities. He has served as a Boy Scout camp leader and a volunteer with the Shop with a Cop program to help children in need. Keith has also played the violin for over five years and is a member of the Fort Valley State cross country and track and field teams.

2018 Third Quarter Scholar
Kennedy Martin, a freshman at Spelman College, is the third HBCU scholarship recipient of 2018. She came to Spelman from Cincinnati, Ohio. A Biochemistry major, Kennedy hopes to become a pediatric surgeon. She is passionate about working with and caring for children, and she wants to make a positive impact on their lives.

2018 Second Quarter Scholar
We are proud to award Aaliyah Buckholts the second HBCU scholarship of 2018. Aaliyah is a sophomore at Savannah State University where she is majoring in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education. She dreams of one day opening an academy that will provide underprivileged students with a world-class education. Aaliyah also stays active in her community by volunteering at local schools, Boys and Girls Clubs and Girl Scouts.

2018 First Quarter Scholar
Congratulations to Desiree Raymond, the first HBCU scholarship recipient of 2018. Desiree is a junior Health Science major and Public Health minor at Spelman College. She aspires to become a General Trauma Surgeon and has already spent time shadowing surgeons in her desired field. Desiree mentors young students at an Atlanta area elementary school, serves as the Lead Photographer for the campus yearbook and also holds the Historian position with the Health Careers Club.

2017 Fourth Quarter Scholar
The final HBCU Scholarship recipient of 2017 is Antonio McMillan. Antonio is a junior at Savannah State University where he majors in biology. He plans to pursue a career as an orthodontist and even helped found Savannah State’s first Pre-Dental Society. The Society collects and donates dental supplies to a Savannah homeless shelter. Antonio is an Honor/Dean’s List student and a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership Success.

2017 Third Quarter Scholar
We are proud to award Eric Wilson our third HBCU scholarship of 2017. Eric is a sophomore at Clark Atlanta University where he is studying Mass Media Arts. Eric grew up in Chicago and moved to Atlanta to pursue his education. He was elected Freshman Class President at Clark Atlanta and dedicates his time to mentoring the younger generation. Eric currently runs an event planning business and hopes to make his mark not only in Atlanta but also back home in Chicago where his family still resides.

2017 Second Quarter Scholar
Bria Adams is an incoming freshman at Spelman College where she will major in Psychology and minor in Music. She graduated from New Manchester High School in Douglasville, Georgia. Bria is a Bonner Scholar and the recipient of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cup for “Best All-Around Senior.” She loves to sing and has performed on stage in chorus and drama productions at school.

Congratulations to David C. Early, III, the first HBCU scholarship recipient of 2017. David is currently in his freshman year at Morehouse College. He is an English Pre-Law major and dreams of one day becoming an entertainment attorney. David attended high school at Madison Academic Magnet High School in Jackson, Tennessee.

Joreal Eady is the final HBCU scholarship winner of the year. She is currently a senior at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville and plans to attend Langston University. She hopes to pursue a career in Healthcare Management. Joreal is involved in many extracurricular activities, including Student Council, Student Ambassadors, Secretary of State Student Ambassadors, PTSA, Maxwell Student Ambassadors and HOSA. She has received the Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award, DHS Community Service Diploma Seal, Discovery Student Council Award and the Discovery PTSA Scholarship. Joreal also volunteers in the community at the Lawrenceville Co-Op Ministry and SaltLight Center.

2016 Third Quarter Scholar
Congratulations to Etienne Batiste, the third scholarship winner of the year. Etienne, a native of College Park, Georgia, is currently a freshman at Spelman College where she is pursuing a civil engineering degree. Etienne not only maintained a 4.4 GPA throughout high school, but she was also selected as valedictorian. She hopes to give back to her community and ensure a greater future for Atlanta.

2016 Second Quarter Scholar
Delmer Jones, III is a rising sophomore at Morehouse College. He finished his freshman year with an impressive 3.7 GPA while also working two jobs to help cover his tuition costs. Delmer is from Snellville, Georgia and graduated from Brookwood High School. He is currently a marketing major and hopes to ultimately pursue a career in sports marketing. Delmer and his parents are longtime Delta Community members.

The first scholarship winner of 2016, Donavan White, currently attends Morehouse College as a freshman. Donavan graduated from Kennesaw Mountain High School where he played football in addition to working hard on his studies. He hopes to pursue a career in Industrial Engineering.
2015 Fourth Quarter Scholar
Abrahana James is currently a junior at Fort Valley State University where she maintains a 3.9 GPA as a business management major. She is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and captain of the softball team. Abrahana, from Southwest Atlanta, has been a member of Delta Community since 2012.

Jerome Neal, III is from McDonough, Georgia, and is currently a senior at Union Grove High School. He maintains a 3.4 GPA, is a marching band section leader and participates in varsity track. Jerome plans to attend Savannah State University next year following his high school graduation.
