Delta Community Credit Union Senior Vice President of Human Resources Suzanne Mitchell has received the Patriot Award.
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, presents the award to business leaders who go above and beyond in supporting their Guard and Reserve employees.
“I am honored to accept the Patriot Award on Delta Community’s behalf,” Mitchell said. “Our organization was founded to provide superior advice and value on the essential banking services every household needs, and our employees deliver on this mission every day. Likewise, our country depends on members of our military to protect and advance our national interests. We have great respect for individuals who serve in our armed forces and will always stand by them and their families.”
Mitchell’s recognition reflects the assistance she and Delta Community provided to an employee during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the national health emergency, Hershel Mingo, assistant branch manager at one of its Stockbridge branches, learned that her husband would be activated with the Georgia Army National Guard to help with vaccinations and COVID-19 testing.
With her husband away, Mingo was left to care for their children and manage household responsibilities.
Mitchell assured her that the credit union would remain flexible and accommodative throughout the deployment.
Although the credit union extended special consideration to all employees during the pandemic, the Mingos shared their appreciation with ESGR and nominated Mitchell for the award.
“We are thankful for Ms. Mitchell and Delta Community for the countless ways they stood by our family during a very difficult time,” Mingo said. “My husband was able to concentrate on his mission objectives knowing our family was receiving the support we needed.”
The award was presented by Thom and Jackie McKennie, representatives of the regional ESGR.
“It is critical to honor companies and employers that hire and support Guard and Reserve members,” Thom McKennie said. “Ms. Mitchell and Delta Community have shown that they value their employees and the families who serve, and we hope they inspire others to do the same.”
ESGR fosters cooperation and understanding between service members and civilian employers, while promoting workplace cultures that recognize and value military service.
