Lovejoy High School graduate wins HBCU scholarship

Clayton News-Daily

Delta Community Credit Union, in partnership with V-103, announced the first three recipients of its 2025 HBCU Scholarship Program, which supports students attending or planning to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

She will be attending Tuskegee University in Alabama, where she will major in business administration and minor in communications.

“It is a blessing to receive this scholarship and to be recognized for my efforts in my school and community,” Kanu said. “Neither of my parents went to school in the United States, so an opportunity to earn a degree that can change the course of my family’s legacy is truly remarkable.”

Kanu graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA.

She also served as the first African-American female governor of the Georgia District of Key Club International.

She also completed more than 200 hours of community service, which includes volunteering with the Boulevard Mentorship Program and MTS Sickle Cell Foundation, a nonprofit that supports students with sickle cell disease.

Her achievements have also been recognized with proclamations from the City of Lovejoy and the Clayton County Board of Commissioners.

The Delta Community and V-103 HBCU Scholarship Program will award a total of five $5,000 scholarship awards in 2025.

The final two recipients will be announced in November, following another application period.
