Why Branches Still Matter

Delta Community recently celebrated the opening of its 27th branch. The new location, the Credit Union’s first in Alpharetta, provides full-service banking and access to professionals to help consumers with auto and home loans, investment advice and other financial products.

While consumers have long been able to transfer money, pay bills and even deposit checks directly from their smartphones, research shows many people still want to visit a brick-and-mortar branch for some transactions. During grand opening events at the Alpharetta location, members expressed gratitude for a conveniently located branch.

Long-time member Denise Daley-Allen says she uses online and mobile banking “all the time,” but for some personal transactions she prefers to visit a branch. “I’m online 24/7,” said Daley-Allen. “But even though I CAN do it online, sometimes I just WANT to speak with a professional, in person, for advice on things like loans, or where to put my money and how to best move it around.”

To celebrate our new Alpharetta Branch, and frontline professionals at all our locations who help members every day, we compiled a list of tasks to attend to in-person.

  • Get a new credit or debit card. Stuff happens, and sometimes cards are lost or damaged beyond use. Delta Community members may visit any branch location to have a new card printed on the spot.
  • Get help managing multiple accounts. While it’s easy and convenient to open a new account online, it is sometimes helpful to discuss options, face-to-face with a friendly, knowledgeable teller or Member Service Agent.
  • Lighten your load. Visit one of 19 Delta Community coin-cashing machines to trade in that heavy bucket of coins you’ve been collecting. This service, which is free for amounts up to $250, allows you to deposit your coin equivalency directly into your account or swap coins for paper bills.
  • Speaking of paper money, visit a branch to obtain the bills you prefer. Whether you need $1 bills for tips or a crisp, new $100 bill for a special gift, branch employees can provide exactly what you need. (You can’t get that from an ATM.)
  • Get advice. An appointment with a friendly Delta Community team member is available at no cost to our members. From retirement and estate planning to purchasing auto and homeowners insurance or getting a first loan, these professionals are available to help with life’s most important decisions.

From online loan applications to mobile check deposit, technological advances let us carry out many banking transactions online or on our smart phones. In listening to our members we have found that, sometimes (and for a variety of personal reasons) people prefer a face-to-face conversation. That’s why we’re confident our members, and members of other credit unions in our shared branch network, will welcome our new Alpharetta Branch with as much excitement as we do.
