Expiration Date of a Personal Check

How long is a personal check valid after the check was written?

Unlike checks issued from a business which state an expiration date, a personal check generally does not expire or become stale. The receiver generally may cash the check against the account as long as a stop payment has not been applied. However, financial institutions may be allowed to refuse the item after a certain period of time.
