Three Cherokee County elementary school students won a $100 youth savings account each for winning an essay contest hosted by a local credit union.

Third grader Annaclaire Berry and fifth grader London Stone from Hickory Flat Elementary School, and third grader Daniel Ford from Oak Grove Elementary School STEAM Academy, are among the winners of Delta Community Credit Union’s 2023 Youth Essay Contest, the credit union announced.

Twenty-one winners were named, and each child was awarded a $100 youth savings account.

The following schools also had student winners selected: Teasley Elementary in Smyrna, East Side Elementary in Marietta, Matt Elementary in Cumming, Woodward Mill Elementary in Lawrenceville, Burnette Elementary in Suwanee, White Oak Elementary in Newnan, Peeples Elementary in Fayetteville, along with Ivy Prep Academy and Drew Charter in Atlanta.

Students were asked to write an essay about what they would save for if saving money was their superpower. Winning essays included responses from students that said they would save money for altruistic causes like donating to the National Brain Tumor Society, building a wildfire refuge for animals, or providing necessities for those in need. Another student said they would save money to build a school, and another would save to pay for college.
