Food Well Alliance among four organizations to receive $35,000 in total awards from Delta Community Credit Union

Marietta Daily Journal

The Food Well Alliance is one of four organizations to receive significant financial support from Cobb-based Delta Community Credit Union in June.

Through the credit union’s Philanthropic Fund, the Food Well Alliance received a $10,000 award. Food Well Alliance is a collaborative network of local leaders focused on building community gardens and urban farms across neighborhoods to provide resources and support to local growers.

The award will be used to fund its Compost Connecters program, which gets STEM and STEAM students and their families excited about growing, cooking and eating healthy, while also reducing food waste. The program teaches students their role in building healthier communities by interacting with each phase of the compost cycle.

The credit union also awarded $10,000 to Midwest Food Bank Georgia, which partners with 168 nonprofit agencies in metro-Atlanta to distribute food to food insecure families.

Great Prospects Inc. and Youth Empowerment Success Services also received $7,500 each. Great Prospects Inc. is an organization that supports families of individuals with disabilities. The award will support the nonprofit’s Therapeutic Day Program, which empowers teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by teaching self-care and self-advocacy skills and explore volunteer interests. Youth Empowerment Success Services is an organization focused on reducing homelessness in adults between 18-24 years old, by providing them with stable housing, a support system and life skills.

The 2023 Philanthropic Fund invested a total of $150,000 in 20 metro Atlanta non-profit organizations.
