Gwinnett Daily Post

Since its inception in 2006 as part of the Georgia Work-Based Learning Program, the Delta Community Credit Union’s High School Apprentice Program has served as a pipeline to bring high school students to the credit union to provide branch support while giving each student real-world job experience.

This year, four students from Gwinnett County high schools were among the 21 students selected for the apprentice program. In addition, students were chosen from the city of Decatur, Forsyth County, Cherokee County, Cobb County, Coweta County, Douglas County, Fayette County, Henry County and Fulton County.

Brandon Ruiz-Amador, a senior at Collins Hill, Charleen Yazo, a senior at Peachtree Ridge, Vani Patel, a senior at North Gwinnett and Fizza Gallani, a junior at Brookwood will all work as part-time tellers at one of Delta Community Credit Union’s 29 metro-Atlanta branches during the coming school year.

Ruiz-Amador will work at the Buford branch and Yazo has been assigned to the Duluth branch. Patel will work at the Johns Creek branch and Gallani — one of only two juniors in this year’s apprentice program —will work at the Snellville branch.

This year’s apprentice class marks a milestone in the program as more than 200 students have now participated in the work-based learning initiative. Delta Community Credit Union is one of the top employers of students through the state’s work-based learning program.
