South Gwinnett High School 3DE Students Get Business Coaching From Delta Community Credit Union

Gwinnett Daily Post

Students from South Gwinnett High School’s 3DE marketing class recently had the opportunity to take part in a competition resembling the popular TV show “Shark Tank” and gain real-world business experience.

The students, all juniors, were assigned to conceptualize a unique company and create a business plan through 3DE, a high school program offered by Junior Achievement to allow students to learn about a variety of industries and professions while developing skills in high-growth careers.

Representatives from Delta Community Credit Union served in the role of the “Sharks” and students made presentations about their companies and plans. But instead of making deals, the point of the event was for students to receive business coaching and feedback from Georgia’s largest credit union, which offered critiques on the students’ proposed operations, strategies and budgets.

Nikki Thornton, the 3DE director at South Gwinnett, said the experience with business professionals is valuable to each student’s education and success. While Delta Community Credit Union has partnered with Junior Achievement and the 3DE program for several years, this is the first time Delta Community has worked with South Gwinnett students.

“Hearing from people with real-world experience helps reinforce everything they are learning in the classroom,” said Thornton in a news release. “As a credit union, any financial perspective and strategy students received from Delta Community will carry weight in structuring their business plans.”

South Gwinnett has been a 3DE school since the 2020-21 school year.
