A Message from Our CEO—Year in Review

CEO Hank Halter

Dear Members,

This year has been unlike any other as we have faced so many challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. For most of 2020, we have had to make many unexpected adjustments to how we live and work, including the difficult task of quarantining and socially distancing ourselves for the common good.

As financial service providers, credit unions are considered essential businesses by the federal government, and we have a duty to sustain operations and support for our members. In March, as COVID-19 was declared a national emergency, we installed a variety of safety measures in our branches to deliver a high level of care while safeguarding the health of everyone. For a brief time, we transitioned to an appointment-only and drive-through approach based on a temporary stay-at-home order issued by Governor Brian Kemp. We reopened our branch lobbies after the order expired and in careful consideration of both our members’ and employees’ desires and needs. New procedures and policies were put into place and you, our members, responded positively.

Additionally, Delta Community’s strong financial position enabled us to maintain consistent value and demonstrate flexibility. For members who suffered financial hardships because of illness or a work layoff due to COVID-19, we offered assistance programs, including fee waivers, payment deferrals, restructured loan terms and short-term, interest-free personal loans. Our Commercial Lending team supported many business members with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans made available through the Small Business Administration.

As I have led our team’s response efforts during this unprecedented year, I have been extremely proud of our employees’ dedication. They have more than met the operational challenges of either working in a socially distanced branch or from home by finding consistent purpose and reward in helping you, our valued members.

I hope that you and your family have been able to stay safe and healthy throughout this year and that you are able to have an enjoyable holiday season. As we close out 2020, I am looking forward with hope and optimism to a better 2021 for everyone, and please know Delta Community is always here for you.

Sincerely,

Hank Signature

Give Back Giveaway Winners Announced

Give Back Giveaway Winners

Last month, Delta Community teamed up with Jenn Hobby from Star 94.1 for the fourth annual $10,000 Give Back Giveaway. We asked metro Atlanta youth to organize service projects that brought light and joy to their school’s community during this difficult time. We recognized the top five schools, with three finalists receiving $1,000 each, one runner-up receiving $2,000 and one grand prize winner receiving $10,000.

The grand prize winner of the $10,000 Give Back Giveaway is Lambert High School in Suwanee! They created the Youth Give Back and Learning Pals Program, made up of seven high schoolers who taught virtual classes to over 180 elementary and middle schools students who were home during COVID-19. These classes were free and included creative writing, physical education, critical thinking, games and reading. Star 94.1 and Delta Community surprised the students with the news during a virtual presentation.

The $2,000 prize was awarded Lovejoy High School for their project establishing a “Caring Closet” full of clothing and personal hygiene items for those in need. They also partnered with nearby groups and businesses to offer fresh groceries every weekend.

The three $1,000 finalists are:

  • Rocky Mount Elementary, who created a different project for each grade level. The students thanked their families, first responders, custodians, school bus drivers and the Cobb County Technology Team with songs, cards, posters and treats. They also became pen pals with residents at a senior care facility.
  • The Student Leadership Team at Liberty Elementary School, who created a food pantry for families in need and organized four different food drives, where thousands of lunches were given out each week.
  • Rome High School, who filmed and produced a touching video to send to nursing homes and healthcare workers. They also made pieces of art to send to the nursing home to brighten the day of the residents.
