Give Back Giveaway Winners Announced

Give Back Giveaway Winners

Earlier this year, Delta Community teamed up with Jenn Hobby from Star 94.1 for the Jenn & Friends $10,000 Give Back Giveaway. We asked metro Atlanta youth to organize a service project in their school’s community that gives back to young people. We recognized the top five schools, with three finalists receiving $1,000 each, one runner-up receiving $2,000 and one grand prize winner receiving $10,000.

The grand prize winner of the $10,000 Give Back Giveaway is Ruth Hill Elementary School in Newnan. Their community service project was “Sweet Dreams: Helping Kids in Crisis.” The fourth and fifth grade students created bedtime bags of comfort filled with blankets, stuffed animals, toiletries and hand-drawn cards to help children in difficult situations. Star 94.1 and Delta Community Credit Union presented the students with their check at a surprise pep rally held at the school.

The $2,000 prize was awarded to Palmer Middle School for their project to gather gifts and school supplies to donate to Calvary Children’s Home.

The three $1,000 finalists are:

  • The Junior Beta Club at Barack and Michelle Obama Academy for their project to fill backpacks with school supplies for kids in need.
  • The sixth grade ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) group at Sequoyah Middle School, who started a food drive for needy families.
  • East Ellijay Elementary, whose students contribute to a different community outreach project each month including collecting warm clothes and winter wear for children in need.

Monthly Blog

  • Holiday Shopping and Saving Tips : The holidays can be relaxing and enjoyable as you share time with family and friends; but they may also be stressful for those trying to stretch their budget to cover related holiday costs ranging from meals to decorations, gifts and travel. For those worried about holiday spending, there are many ways to control expenses, including spreading them over a longer period of time and shopping sales throughout the year. Another option is to save a little extra money each month, so you can enjoy shopping during the holiday season.
  • Talking Money With Your Parents: The Will: Over the course of our lives there are many conversations that children have with their parents that can be difficult for both of them, but are important, and these discussions often strongly affect their lives, both in the present and for the future. One key conversation that sometimes is avoided until it is too late is talking about a parent's will.
  • Talking Money With Your Kids: Affording College: Attending a college or university has consistently grown in importance in the U.S. for decades. While the benefits of a college degree are known, these benefits are offset by the ever-increasing costs of pursuing a post-high school education. The costs for college can be extremely daunting for both would-be students and their parents; still, families pay for college in a variety of ways, often making significant personal sacrifices to make higher education a reality for their children.
